This is probably my favourite Doctor/River scene ever.
It’s just so tender. River’s whole entire life has revolved around the Doctor. She lives for the moments she gets to see him- she cannot move on from him even after death. She is so strong, so confident about herself and then there’s the Doctor which makes her feel-everything.
The Doctor doesn’t show his feelings. It hurts too much- his first memory of River is her dying, leaving him with only one answer. That it’s his wife. And he had to watch her die before he could even enjoy their first encounter (on his timeline).
For just a couple of minutes they can have a conversation with all the walls down, no one is waiting to destroy them. They need to destroy themselves really, but not before they fully admit they love/d one another.
The Doctor get’s his closure. And thankfully, so does River.
